Carlos -Exploring the World Above and Below the Surface

I've always felt that the ocean calls to a certain kind of person! the curious, the adventurous, and those who are never quite satisfied staying on the surface. As a sailor, I spent years travelling across the world, but eventually my attention shifted below the waterline. Diving became more than a hobby; it became a way of experiencing destinations from an entirely different perspective.

Over the years, I've been fortunate enough to dive in some incredible locations, including Thailand, Indonesia, Egypt, South Africa, the Maldives, and Spain. Each destination offered something unique. Some were filled with vibrant coral reefs and colourful marine life, while others revealed dramatic underwater landscapes and unforgettable encounters with ocean wildlife. What continues to fascinate me most is how alive everything feels beneath the surface. The colours, the movement, and even the silence create a world unlike anything above the water.

One of the most important milestones in my journey was becoming a Divemaster. Reaching that level required commitment, discipline, and countless hours underwater. A huge part of that achievement is thanks to my friend Alex, whose guidance and mentorship helped me develop not only my diving skills but also the mindset required to become a better diver. Through his patience, experience, and focus on safety, I learned to approach every dive with awareness, confidence, and respect for the ocean.

Diving has also deepened my appreciation for marine life. Of all the creatures I've encountered, manta rays remain my favourite. Watching one glide effortlessly through the water is an experience that's difficult to describe. Their size, grace, and calm presence make every encounter unforgettable. At the same time, there are still dreams left to chase. One of my personal goals is to see a hammerhead shark in the wild. I haven't been lucky enough yet, but that's part of what makes diving so exciting — there's always another adventure waiting.

Looking ahead, I'd love to continue my journey and eventually become a scuba diving instructor. Being able to introduce others to the underwater world, guide them through their first breaths underwater, and share the experiences that changed my life would be incredibly rewarding.

To anyone considering scuba diving, my advice is simple: take the plunge. Diving challenges you, humbles you, and changes the way you see the ocean forever. It's more than an activity or a certification. It's a perspective, a community, and a lifelong journey of exploration.
