DAY 2
Open Water Dive 1: First Steps into the Ocean
Your first open water dive is kept simple to help you adjust to the environment and build confidence. Before entering, you’ll:
✔️ Put on and check your scuba equipment
✔️ Perform a pre-dive safety check
✔️ Adjust weights (if needed)
✔️ Review hand signals
Once in the water, you’ll descend up to 12 meters (40 feet) using a descent line or sloping bottom contour. At depth, you’ll:
✅ Perform a trim check
✅ Clear a partially flooded mask
✅ Recover & clear your regulator
✅ Enjoy exploring the dive site with your instructor before ascending
Open Water Dive 2: Refining Skills & Awareness
Building on Dive 1, this dive introduces dive planning and buoyancy control at the surface. Pre-dive preparations now include:
✔️ Planning the dive with a dive computer or RDP
✔️ Performing a pre-dive safety check
✔️ Adjusting weights if necessary
✔️ Orally inflating your BCD at the surface
Underwater, you’ll descend again to 12 meters (40 feet) and focus on:
✅ Achieving neutral buoyancy using your low-pressure inflator
✅ Clearing a fully flooded mask
✅ Recovering & clearing your regulator at depth
✅ Practicing out-of-air emergency procedures with a buddy
✅ Ascending using/donating an alternate air source
After completing these skills, the remaining time will be spent exploring the dive site while monitoring air consumption and buddy awareness. The dive concludes with a five-point ascent and a safety stop before surfacing.
These dives reinforce your confidence and prepare you for deeper adventures ahead. Ready to take the next step? Let’s dive in!
